Google Play feature graphic size and specs (2026)

The feature graphic is exactly 1024 x 500 pixels, JPEG or 24-bit PNG with no alpha. Here is the format, where it shows, and the safe area to leave for the play button.

The Google Play feature graphic is one fixed size: 1024 x 500 pixels. There is no larger variant, no tablet version, and no aspect-ratio range to pick from. If you upload anything other than exactly 1024 by 500, Play will reject it. This guide covers the size and format, where the graphic actually appears, the safe area you need to leave clear, and how to grab any live app's feature graphic so you can study it.

The exact size and format

Two rules, and they are strict.

  • Dimensions: exactly 1024 x 500 pixels. This is the only accepted size.
  • Format: JPEG, or 24-bit PNG with no alpha channel. No transparency.

The no-alpha part trips people up. A 32-bit PNG that carries an alpha channel will be refused even if nothing in the image is actually transparent, so export a flat 24-bit PNG or a JPEG. Whatever is behind your artwork needs to be a real, opaque colour, not transparency you are relying on Play to fill in.

The feature graphic is required to publish a listing. You cannot ship without one, which is part of why so many teams throw one together at launch and never revisit it.

Where the feature graphic appears

This is separate from your screenshots and separate from your app icon (the icon is 512 x 512 on Play). The feature graphic is the wide banner Play can show at the top of your listing and across promotional placements throughout Google Play. It is often the first branded image a person sees before they have scrolled to the screenshot carousel.

Because Play uses this single asset everywhere, it gets cropped and scaled differently across surfaces and devices. There is no separate tablet feature graphic. One 1024 x 500 file has to work on a phone listing, a promotional card, and a large tablet screen, so you cannot assume any particular edge will survive.

The centre play button and the safe area

Here is the detail most people miss. If you have added a promo video to your listing, Google Play overlays a play button in the centre of the feature graphic. That button sits right on top of your artwork.

So the dead centre is not yours to use. Keep logos, product names, and any essential text out of the middle, because a play button may land there and cover them. Keep the same content away from the edges too, since those get cropped on different surfaces. In practice that leaves a band of safe space between the centre and the edges. Design for that band.

A simple mental model

Imagine two things being subtracted from the canvas: a circular play button in the middle, and a variable crop around the outside. Anything you need people to read has to survive both. If your layout only works when the whole 1024 x 500 is visible and the centre is clear, it will break on the surfaces that matter.

Common mistakes

  • Uploading a 32-bit PNG with an alpha channel, then wondering why Play rejects it.
  • Centring the logo or headline, only for the play-button overlay to sit on top of it.
  • Running text to the edges, where it gets sliced off in a promotional crop.
  • Treating it as decorative. It is the widest branded surface Play gives you, and it is required, so a stale or empty-looking graphic is a wasted placement.
  • Assuming a separate tablet asset exists. It does not. The same 1024 x 500 file is used everywhere.

How to grab any app's feature graphic to study it

The fastest way to learn what works is to look at feature graphics from apps in your category. Paste a Google Play URL into the free ripper and it returns the screenshots, the 512 x 512 icon, and the feature graphic at native resolution, grouped and labelled. You can pull a dozen competitors in a few minutes and see how each one handles the centre and the edges.
